Scaling Up Security, Governance, and Compliance
A leading global ingredient solutions provider, Ingredion turns grains, fruits, vegetables, and other plant-based materials into value-added ingredients used in foods, beverages, animal nutrition, brewing, and industrial applications. Serving more than 18,000 customers in 120 countries, Ingredion generated more than $8 billion in net sales over the past year, but the company’s growth roadmap is even more ambitious.
With approximately 12,000 employees across 27 countries, Ingredion needed a modern Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) platform that could support rapid provisioning and deprovisioning across its entire workforce. Managing Joiner-Mover-Leaver (JML) processes using the legacy solution the company had previously relied on was cumbersome and inefficient, involving spreadsheets and manual steps. Because the legacy solution wasn’t integrated with Workday, Ingredion’s human capital management (HCM) system of record, the HR department had no visibility into employee onboarding processes. Plus, there was frustration about how long it took to get new hires access to key applications. Terminating access immediately upon departure wasn’t performed consistently, either.
Concerns about audit and compliance risk, overspending, and the time-consuming nature of identity governance workflows motivated stakeholders in security and HR to advocate for a new IGA solution.
Ingredion’s team wanted to free themselves from the costs and burden of managing on-premises servers, so they sought out a cloud-native solution. They also wanted a solution that would be easy to learn and intuitive to manage, and that would enable rapid application onboarding. Robust reporting capabilities and the ability to leverage automation—as well as analytic insights from machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI)—were also must-haves. They found everything they were looking for in Saviynt’s full-featured IGA platform.
The Solution
Implementing the Saviynt IGA platform was a relatively simple and straightforward process. Over the course of a two-phase process that took approximately six months, Ingredion was able to onboard mission-critical applications including Workday, Active Directory, Office 365 and Salesforce into Saviynt.
This makes it possible to configure region-specific account management policies for users. With Saviynt IGA, Ingredion’s security team can leverage automation to mitigate risks, govern identities, and maintain robust controls. Because Saviynt is highly configurable (using a low-code approach), it’s easy to continuously refine policies, controls, and entitlements—without needing to hire additional staff with programming expertise. Automating complex, formerly manual processes has freed up time that teams can now spend on strategic initiatives, transforming security into a business enabler.
Ingredion’s team continues to work closely with Saviynt, continuing to develop a collaborative partnership that will serve them as they onboard additional applications into the platform, configure fine-grained controls, and consider expanding their reliance on the Saviynt Enterprise Identity Cloud in the future.
Key benefits included:
- Seamless application integration for business-critical software including Workday, Active Directory, Office 365, ServiceNow, and Salesforce
- Efficient identity management for more than 12,000 identities, including service accounts and external contractors
- Significant cost reduction due to streamlined identity management processes, reduced manual effort, and simplified operations. Ingredion expects to save over 1M in the first year post-implementation
- 80% risk reduction in relation to audit-readiness and compliance
The Results
With Saviynt, Ingredion is achieving its ambitious goals—enhancing automation, reducing security and audit risks, and more efficiently managing identities. Stakeholders anticipate onboarding additional applications into the platform in the coming months, including both legacy tools and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) apps. At this time, privileged access management (PAM) and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) tools are integrated with Saviynt IGA, but Ingredion may consolidate these capabilities within the Saviynt Enterprise Identity Cloud in the future. This would reduce costs, while enabling the security program to take full advantage of platform synergies.
