SIG Turns to Modern Cloud IGA Platform to Enhance Visibility and Control
Top European specialist supplier of construction and building materials realizes new efficiencies in access management and review.
The Opportunity
Realizing Unprecedented Efficiencies for the Win
As Europe’s leading specialist supplier of insulation and building materials, SIG serves more than 75,000 customers across the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Benelux, and Poland. These local markets have their own languages, cultures, and construction industries, and each has distinctive customer service, on-time delivery, and specialized product needs. To better meet these unique local requirements, SIG operates nationally across six geographies and a network of local branches in each country, to give its individual customer base ready access to the right products and solutions.
In the building materials and construction distribution industry, maintaining good profitability with great customer service and fast delivery is key. Process efficiencies are important for maintaining competitive advantage in a sector where contractors, installers, and property developers are always looking for the best service and best value. For SIG, implementing a modern cloud Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) platform was an important step in boosting operational efficiency—all while streamlining compliance and mitigating identity-related risks across the company’s complex, distributed environment.
With their sights set on intelligent automation, SIG’s team chose Saviynt’s industry-leading converged identity platform to help them gain a more holistic view of identity and access activity across their multinational hybrid environment. Saviynt IGA makes it easy to configure policies and controls, ensuring that people have the right level of access to business-critical data and applications at all times, and that access reviews are quick and simple.
The Solution
SIG realized value from the implementation almost immediately by integrating Microsoft Active Directory (AD) services from multiple subsidiaries into Saviynt IGA along with the complex enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution used in their UK offices. Taking advantage of pre-built capabilities and low-code configuration, the SIG team was able to identify and eliminate entitlements that had higher risk, simplify segregation of duty (SoD) reporting, and rapidly implementing accelerated access review processes for certain roles.
Saviynt provided a significant advantage when integrated with SAP. Leveraging rules available out-of-the-box, the team has been able to speed and streamline the SoD review process. It provided a method of realizing value quickly and minimizing the burden on internal resources.
“We’re continually evolving the business logic, but as we do this, we keep improving our ability to manage privileged access in SAP,” says Pritchard. “This has allowed us to manage SAP more efficiently and demonstrated the relative ease of integrating complex systems with Saviynt. Each time we do another integration, we see that the entire process—from testing and configuration to rollout—is enhanced.”
The SIG team then moved on to integrate the human resources management (HRM) software so that they could begin to automate Joiner, Mover, Leaver (JML) processes. SIG has an ongoing roadmap increasing process efficiency. Their team plans to automate provisioning and access reviews across the entire company, reducing layers of complexity.
“Efficiency is key in everything we do here at SIG. Many of the changes we make are driven by our quest to achieve greater productivity in our commercial performance, but also ultimately better service for our customers. When we implemented Saviynt, the goals were to increase visibility and leverage automation to create more repeatable processes. Moving to cloud identity governance has also helped us streamline compliance and preparation for audits. This improves workflow for our operational teams and ensures we remain quick and easy to deal with for our customers as well.”

The Results
Saviynt IGA is helping SIG realize process efficiencies that will enable the business to thrive in a competitive marketplace. The cloud-native approach is a natural fit for a multinational pan-European organization like SIG because consistent controls can readily be enforced across multiple clouds, locations, and applications. Automation makes it easy to map controls across regions, regulations, and individual cloud accounts, while granular visibility and improved monitoring capabilities give stakeholders across the business confidence in the organization’s ability to maintain compliance. Additionally, Saviynt IGA allows us to consolidate the view of our 6,700 identities and access points across the logical IT boundaries of our different operating companies and geographies.
key Benefits
Simplified access governance
for an array of business-critical applications including Active Directory and multiple ERP systems.
Granular identity visibility
for more than 6700 people across a diverse application ecosystem spanning multiple on-premises sites and the cloud.
Reduction in labor costs
through the use of automation and streamlined processes.
Improved efficient in compliance risk management
due to improved visibility and reporting capabilities.
“ Identity governance should be thought of as a business-wide process, not a one-off IT project. Streamlining activities in this area can add valuable efficiencies that ultimately improve employee experience and commercial efficiency, with downstream impacts on the entire organization— extending all the way to customers.”
