Saviynt Employee Spotlight: Harshit Agarwal

Written by Sangeetha Iyer | Sep 23, 2024 1:06:11 PM

Tell us a little bit about what you do each day at Saviynt (Your role, responsibilities, and the impact you make on the team).

I began my career as a Software Engineer, straight out of college. Since then at Saviynt, I have consistently advanced in both my title and expertise each year. In my current role as a Senior Software Engineer, I am responsible for designing and developing within the connectors module. This involves determining the development approach, selecting appropriate technologies, and ensuring scalable data structures.

A key aspect of my role is supporting my team. I am always available to assist with design challenges, coding issues, or in any way that I can to help us as a team progress. Collaboration with Product Managers and Product Owners is crucial, as I work closely with them to gather and define requirements from customers, ensuring our designs meet their needs and expectations.

How did you get started in your present career? What do you love about the kind of work you do? What brought you to Saviynt?

As a fresh graduate in engineering from SRMS Bareilly, Vibhuti and Prashant Kumar were instrumental in hiring me from the campus. I had one clear ask that was to work in the development team since I had realised early on that that’s where my passion is.

Started journey at Saviynt on 5 June 2017, as I stepped into the office and met all 25 of my colleagues and all the leaders in India. As a new hire, and fresh out of campus, I had moments when I contemplated if this was a right stepping stone to my career, but the dedication and unwavering commitment of the team and the drive in each and every employee at Saviynt that the product needs to be successful inspired me to continue with Saviynt. It is the passion for the product that ignited the spark of my own commitment to my work.

Ofcourse, Sagar Rajale’s inspiring talks also kept me motivated.

At Saviynt, as a developer one gets to envision how the product needs to be built from scratch, how the customer will use it, etc. Not just develop but even be a part of design calls. This is the best part of working at Saviynt, a developer gets a holistic view of the product.

I must also call out all my friends at Saviynt, from across the functions and departments who came together as one team.

What goals are you working toward professionally? What new skills have you gained this year at Saviynt (or what new skills are you working toward?)

My goal is to be the best developer and enhance my skills in development and design. I wish to grow as an architect, and work on design excellence. My managers mentored me to move towards the mindset and thinking that can take me closer to my goals. I am significantly proud of the payload preview that was completely designed by my team and I.

What’s one workplace rule that you always break and why?
One workplace that I always break is I always tailgate! It is a hassle to access doors the right way!

What honors, awards or commendations have you won recently? Please provide details of the honor, why you received it, and the entity or person who awarded it to you. These can be from your work life or personal life.

My most proud moment at Saviynt is when Sachin Nayyar called out my name in the townhall when I won the employee of the month. I was on my way to my vacation and this couldn’t have come at a better time.

What do you do when you aren’t working at Saviynt? (Hobbies, interests, extracurriculars, etc). What's your favorite way to relax?

I am a hard-core travel enthusiast so when I am not working, I’m more often than not on a road trip. Recently I got married. My spouse is a doctor so together we’re currently setting up her practice and building it up across the city. This gives me an experience of entrepreneurship as well.

What’s one thing — either industry-related or not — you learned in the last month?

I am learning to Stay Calm! Previously, I used to be very temperamental when working on something and being fully focussed, and any distraction could disrupt my calm. But lately I have realised that it’s important to stay calm, listen more and talk less.

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?

I am always ready to go get things done! Any road trip can be planned in less than an hour. Also, I am a foodie and will travel far and wide to relish food. I love Indian and Italian cuisines.

What’s the next place on your travel bucket list? Or, what’s your ideal vacation destination and why?

Bali on the bucket list, and I will be heading out on vacation soon! My Ideal vacation is a cross country road trip. I have done multiple roadtrips, from Bareilly to Ladakh, road trips covering the entire state of Rajasthan, Bangalore to Goa, Gokarna, Ooty, Pondicherry. I also have holidayed at many destinations in South east Asia.

What’s one item you can’t live without and why?

The one and only Chai(tea)!!!
