On August 23, 2021, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner reported that between January 1 and June 30, 2021, organizations had sent 446 notifications under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme. The report attributed 30% of the breaches to human error, 65% to malicious or criminal attacks, and 5% to system faults.
Minimizing the likelihood and impact of such information security incidents on the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of information assets, including those managed by related parties or third parties, is a key objective of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority’s (APRA) Australian Prudential Standard CPS 234.
